Above: Jennaya, Justin, and Judah pan for "gold" at the Orange County Fair during our study of our state, California.  They also got to make goat's hair into felt at another booth in the Gold Rush section of the fair.

Above: Jonathan with a donkey in the fair petting zoo.  We attended the fair many times and Josh won a blue ribbon for his baking.  A fair is a good way to encourage kids to become producers, not just consumers, by raising animals, growing food, baking, or becoming involved in arts and crafts.  As shown on this page, our favorite field trips are those that show daily living in previous times, and events that encourage kids to learn old-fashioned skills. These events are great ways to really enjoy school, have fun, and make a lifetime of memories.

2nd photo from top: Our kids churned their own butter at a Harvest Festival at Heritage House (Fullerton, CA).  At left and below: Our kids join in simplified old fashioned crafts with other children at the grounds of Kellogg House (a restored 1800's house turned hands-on children's museum, Santa Ana).

We have had so many field trips. This will only be a small sampling of what we have done so far.  The top 2 photos on this page are a re-enactment of a

Revolutionary War encampment, which our children and other home schooled kids took part in, set up at "Independence Hall"  (Knott's Berry Farm).  Above left, our kids watch other home schooled kids roast dinner over an outdoor fire.  We dressed our kids in period costumes and they were filmed by the news when they joined a Colonial song and dance.  Top right: Jennaya at age 4.

At left, our kids take part in a tug-of-war with other children on the grounds of Kellogg House.  Our kids also joined in croquet, sack races, and other period leisure activities.  We returned to

Kellogg House many times.
